Verable L. McCloud

Major (Retired) Verable Lancaster (Mac) McCloud passed away at Banner University Medical Center, Tucson, Arizona, on September 30, 2017. He was born on August 4, 1931, the ninth of 12 children, to Mr. & Mrs. Willie McCloud (deceased) of Mt Airy, NC. He leaves behind his wife, Anece, of 58 years, two daughters Aja Siobhan of Lexington, VA; Carla Queipo (Mark) of Sacramento, CA; a grandson, Dillon Christensen, of Sacramento, CA; a brother Donald McCloud of Mt Airy, NC; and three sisters - Delores Hale of Flint, Michigan; Jessie Brim, of Mt Airy NC; Ruth Mabe, of Aurora, CO; a brother in law James Faison of Brooklyn, NY and various nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He graduated summa cum laude in 1959 from the Agricultural and Technical University of North Carolina where he participated in the ROTC. He began his military career in the fall of that year. In 1977 he was assigned to the American Institute of Industrial Engineering where he earned membership.

Mac served in the US Air Force for 20 years. He was stationed in many parts of the world including Tripoli, Korea, England, and Viet Nam. During his tenure in the military he received honors from the Officers of III DAC Bien Hoa Vietnam, the officers and men of Advisory Team 95 in Vietnam, and an award, “ Victory by Valor” from the 20th Tactical Fighter Wing. He retired from the Strategic Air Command (SAC) in Omaha, NE in 1977. He then worked in the civilian sector as Manager of Planning at Mutual of Omaha and later as a technical consultant to students at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA. He held several board positions with the Omaha YMCA, the Omaha Boys Club, and the Rockbridge Virginia Mental Health Association. After finally retiring he moved to Tucson, AZ in 1999 where he was a member of the Casa Adobes Congregational Church.

He won several local golf tournaments while in Bellevue, NE. He was a fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and enjoyed NCAA basketball (NC State) and NBA games.
